Do you throw away the bones of your Sunday roast in the trash? There is a way to use the carcasses! (You can also use chicken meat like chicken breast if you want!)
Here is a fun and easy chicken soup for cats recipe that will make your cat genuinely happy!
To try the dish, here's what you'll need:
- Bones from poultry or turkey
- Carrot
- 1 Stalk of Celery
- Water
- Soup Pot with Cover
- Mesh strainer
Directions:
Making fresh homemade turkey or chicken soup for your cats has never been easier! Here are the steps:
- Place the bones in the pot if there's some meat on them, that's fine. (It's preferable!) Include the carrot and celery in the pool there's no need to cut them up.
- Fill the pot with water (filtered if you prefer it that way). Put just enough water in the pot to cover the chicken or turkey bones.
- Cover the pot and let the chicken or turkey stock simmer for about 6 hours on low heat.
- When you've completed cooking this straightforward recipe, use a mesh strainer to transfer on a bowl or container of your choice. Don't skip this step! Some bones may have cracked during the simmering process; you don't wish your cat to eat any bone shards. Once done, you will be left with transparent-gold chicken soup.
- Numerous recipes say that it is essential to cool this broth down quickly for the best results, so you can refrigerate this. Doing so generates a congealed texture which makes it creamy as well as smooth. I like putting the chicken/turkey stock in silicone molds, making ice cubes out of them. Once frozen, they make a quick, healthy, as well as an easy reward for your cat!
- To do this, get a baking sheet and put the silicone molds on them. After that, put the warm broth into the mold and place it in the freezer. After a couple of hours, they will bulge! I throw them in a Ziploc fridge freezer bag and put them back in the freezer.
I generally take 1 or 2 cubes out every day and let them melt in my cat's food for the day. My cat appreciates the poultry stock so much. It's also an excellent way to keep your cats who don't drink water a lot to stay hydrated!
Why should I not just acquire a standard store-bought chicken soup or stock for my cat?
Do not feed your pet cat poultry product out of a carton, can, or box that's created for humans. Many of these store-bought product ranges contain onions, garlic, and other seasonings that are bad for your cat and make them sick. In extreme scenarios, they can be poisonous. The recipe above is so easy and uses real chicken carcass. It's economical, so there's virtually no reason not to make it on your own.
